Thing 36

I am trying my hand at some comic relief exercises, and managed to accomplish the first thing needed in 36. I have been having so much trouble remembering (not sure if I ever really learned) how to get "things" on my site. I apparently need a referesher course . . . BAD! A lesson learned: if you're not using some of these tools on a regular basis, the how to of your memory life span may be very short, at least if you are me. I was really excited to manage to get the cartoon on my page. One approach for me was to go back to look over some of the 23 Things I didn't complete and look for helps. It must have helped, because I have a cartoon up, whether I did it properly or not is probably in question. BUT, I did it!!

For real comic relief, check out my movie above! Now this is a tool I thought a children's librarian could use with maybe 3rd grade and up. Wouldn't it be fun to have kids each make a movie, create a place on the library website where they could be promoted and watched? What a fun way to involve family, friends, and others to take a look at your library website. Movie Day @ Your Library Hey?

I looked over the various generators and found some more interesting than others. This Thing was interesting, and fun.

Thing 28

iGoogle is the productivity center for me!! I have been using some key features including the calendar, which I do share between home and work. I use this feature daily, first to keep me on track at work and second as a way to keep track of scheduling home activities inline with what's on the calendar for work. I also have the date and time up all the time, so when I'm working at home or work I have a quick reference, which is much larger than the time alone down in the right hand corner of the computer :) My age showing?

Other pieces to my iGoogle page I use regular include the Word of the Day to help challenge and improve my vocabulary, the weather center so I can stay current on temp., map search is always quick and handy when I need to look for locations and directions. For my personal fun I have my daily horoscope, the Google tip of the day, and current YouTube offerings. Maybe most importantly I use my To Do list as a way to stay focused on daily/weekly activities, again whether for home or work.

The first thing I do when I arrive at work each morning is bring up my iGoogle page, and the day just goes from there. Weekends, I never use my computer without having my page up just in case I need to clarify a date on the calendar, or check something off my To Do list.

Thing 26

Well, I have successfully joined the 23 Things on a Stick Ning. So far I joined a group, which was a bit of a challenge for me. No, not because I couldn't figure out how to, rather choosing the group was tricky. I will wait to see if anyone wants to boot me out or not :) I haven't been able to get the badge on my site, but had no trouble adding it to my Facebook account. I am just going to be one of those users who needs to have the easiest possible way to accomplish adding things to my blog.

However, I did manage to add a sitemeter, which I was trying to accomplish for Thing 25. Today, I found an introductory email from sitemeter, and they included some very basic instructions on how to add the HTML to my blog. I followed the directions just as they said, and WALLA....sitemeter has been added. I tried using the same steps to add the Ning badge, but that just wouldn't work. :( Anyone out there with some tips on how to add the badge, let me know??

Thing 25

Wow did I spend a lot of time trying to do things I learned I'm not capable of doing. I looked back at some of the 24 Things I didn't complete, and realize now I'm going to have to really do my work and refer back to try and make it through these upcoming "things." I had a great time taking advantage of adding gadgets, and chose to pick four from the choices available, as my efforts in the other category choices went nowhere. I tried to embed things, but was really afraid to to anything with html. Either I forgot h0w this works, or I never knew.

It will be fun to see how and if I use the gadgets added. Hope you will take time to copy and paste my nephews name into the You Tube line, hit enter and you'll be able to see a couple things he's drawn. He is currently going to school MN School of Arts and Graphic Design. He's always been into drawing things.

Thing 24

Okay okay, it's been a loooong time. I didn't manage to finish even 23 Things the first go around, but didn't lose interest in the concept as much as I just lost time! Now, those of us who lost "time" have a fabulous opportunity to break into More Things and just try to keep moving. Of course, you Multitype sponsors have added that awesome incentive by giving us a change to still puruse a goal and at the minimum experience ten more tools!! Thank you for extending the deadline.

I'm not sure if I'll make the ten but I'm going to give it a shot. So I start by using the template choices' to sharpen up my look, and refamiliarize myself with all of the internal workings and basics of the blog itself. Working with font choices, colors, and new templates is addicting, striving to achieve that "just right look" can take longer than you think! I do feel good with the update, and am excited to keep moving.
